Many People Like Reading Mystery Books

Reading books, especially mystery books, used to be one of the most favored forms of entertainment. Unfortunately, the introduction and success of television and its succeeding components like DVD, computer, and game consoles resulted in fewer people sitting down to read a good book.

More than the ordinary books, mystery books have that certain quality of keeping you on edge. It will be a test of your own skills to analyze the character who seems to come on as the likeliest perpetrator of the crime. Before the advent of electronic technology, young girls had their Nancy Drew while the young boys had their Hardy Boys.

Young minds were honed to develop an appreciation for books. Mystery books sustained their interests as they became adolescents. Their moms on the other hand had her own favorite mystery book, the Agatha Christie novels. This little lady always seemed to be at the scene of crime wherever she went.

To date, many authors continue to write mystery books since there are still people who are hooked into reading. There is still the demand for well-written mystery books from authors like Agatha Christie, Tony Hillerman, John Grisham, and Kellerman. Hence, these authors are still considered as the current best selling mystery writers.

In the years before them, there were the classic writers of mystery books namely Edgar Allan Poe, Sherlock Homes, Ellery Queen, Dorothy Sayers, and others. Their written works were even made as a movie or television series due to its popularity. One of the most popular mystery books by Ellery Queen came out in the early 50s, in the character of Perry Mason. He was the famous lawyer who was often pushed against the wall in solving his cases. In fact, a lot of young people were inspired to become lawyers because of Perry Mason. It was so successful it was even adopted as a television series.

An example of the present-day author is in the person of J.K. Rowling. Her series of mystery books about Harry Potter was to put into movie production and it became a blockbuster worldwide. Every time she releases a new book, production outfits for movies try to outbid each other for the rights to her book.

Mystery books will stay for as long as there are brilliant minds who can keep readers on the edge of their seats with just the use of words. In fact, electronic manufacturers are not far behind because they have already introduced the wireless reading device. Reading is again given importance, as the said device makes reading even easier under any kind of lighting, whether outdoor or indoor.
